I know we still have a couple of events before the end, Christmas and New Year but I planned my festivities early this year with family and friends because I was supposed to be in India already starting my Intern Training at Sangam. However, the visa application process is unpredictable and at the moment I am still waiting for my visa to be granted and my passport to be sent back to me. Fingers crossed everyone!!
So I'm still in good ol' Staffordshire and getting to spend a few more days of fun with friends and family - no work either as I worked my notice and finished at the office so have had the last week to be a lady of leisure but I have managed to get a lot of things done.
Well back to the review, what happened for me in 2013.
I started in January on the adventure of a lifetime setting off on my own to be a Tare (community programme volunteer to use its official title) all part of the international Guiding movement (WAGGGS) at Sangam World Centre. I got to do and see so many amazing things during my three and a half months in India including;
Living in a inspiring international community, and working with these amazing women.
Meeting and riding this beautiful creature called Laxmi.
Using my TEFL knowledge to create fun and engaging lessons for the wonderful kids at Anand Gram School.
Experiencing the magic of Holi the colour festival both at school and with my friends.
Camel Rides.
Being involved in a school performance and teaching these boys a dance.
And then there was all the amazing places that I visited.
Amer Fort Jaipur
Ellora Cave Temples in Aurangabad
Sunrise boat trip on the Ganges and the Ghats in Varanasi
The Golden Temple in Amritsar
Sunset in Panchgani
And of course the iconic Taj Mahal
And then on my 28th Birthday I got to see...
TIGERS!!!!
in their natural habitat which was such an awe inspiring moment for me.
Then sadly, my time in India was up and traveled home, where I was happy to be welcomed back by my family and also my old firm and I started back at work as if I had never left. It has always been a job I have loved and coming back was not what I expected but I had such a wonderful team, work was always so much fun.
The only sad memory I have of this year is the passing of my dear Nan in June which was a massive shock, but right up until the end she was a very lively, independent woman who always loved to hear about what exciting things my cousins, brother and I got up to. I was very lucky to have her for such a long time, and was pleased that I got to see her right before she died, I was especially privledged to get the chance to write and speak about her for part of her eulogy. She is greatly missed by all of us.
My Nan & Grandad
September was an exciting month as my best friend and her hubby had a beautiful little boy, and I am proud to be his God mum. He is the first baby to be born among my group of friends and I love seeing him grow, he's 12 weeks old and already a little character, spending time with him and his family is always such a joy. I can't wait to see the little person he is going to grow into.
These have been the most memorable moments in 2013 ...
Here's hoping I get an even more eventful year ahead for 2014!
